- Read the invitation – it will almost always contain information about a dress code. Because the invitation space is limited, you may not get very specific rules from reading this – but you might find them on the couple’s wedding website, or by simply researching what a specific dress code means.
- For instance, “casual attire” means that you can leave the tuxedo (and even suit) home and dress in something a bit more relaxed – such as dress pants and a shirt, or a nice low-key elegant dress. However, it DOES NOT mean that you are allowed to come to the wedding wearing jeans (unless the couple specifies this as part of their wedding theme).
- Furthermore, no matter what dress code you have to follow, make sure your clothes are tasteful and nice. You don’t need to dress expensive – but keeping it low-toned, not flashy, and not overly provocative can go a long way. The bride and the groom are the stars of the show – you surely don’t want to steal their spotlight with a dress that’s too flashy or a tuxedo in very bright colors, do you?
